Depending on your littles personality, family photography could either be super fun or super stressful. We want to find a middle ground, so that everyone arrive ready to have fun. There are a few things that can help get kids ready for your session.
Make it a family event
Make your session day a fun family day. Maybe plan to go to brunch or dinner afterwards, or plan an activity right after like JumpTime or the Zoo. Talk to your kids about how much fun we are all going to have together.
Talk to your kids about me ahead of time.
Tell your kids my name and let them know we’ll all be getting together soon. Talk to them a bit about what to expect and let them know we’ll all have so much fun. Ask them about what they might like to wear, or have them choose between a few options. For little girls, maybe have them pick a lip gloss to buy that they get to use for the session. Try not to talk to them about behaving or sitting still or anything like that, as it is not our goal for the day!
Make sure everyone is excited
Excitement and anticipation are contagious. Make sure no one is grumbling about the session in front of the kiddos ahead of time. Dads seem to be the culprits there, but as long as they have fun cuddling and playing with their kids they should have fun at the session. We will keep it short and sweet and painless and can even get a fresh linked in picture for Dad at the end if he likes!
Involve kids in choosing clothes or special extras
Let your little ones help in the selection of clothing for the session. Style and Select is great for this, as everything offered will looks amazing! If you have already made the clothing selections, maybe let them choose a special lip gloss to purchase or what shoes they will wear.
Let them know I will have a prize for them
I have a box of goodies that kids can choose a surprise from after the session. I have found this keeps them excited, as its something immediate that they will receive. If you would like, you can tell them about this ahead of time.
