One of the questions I often get as a Boise photographer, besides where to take family photographs or engagement photographs is when to take them. I always recommend my portrait photography clients schedule in the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset. Often for family photographs in Boise, mornings work best because kids are fresh and ready for fun. That leads to great children’s portraits with amazing light.
Sunset is great for engagement photos in Boise since the light is warm and romantic and oh so flattering. If we start about 60 to 90 minutes prior to sunset you can get a nice mix of daylight images as well as sunset photos. This allows for more variety, particularly if you choose to do an outfit change. It provides a beautiful light backdrop for your engagement photography as well as family photos in Boise.
Mid day photography in Boise also can work out in the right location. As long as we select a location with shaded options, we can still create wonderful images for you and your family without worrying about squinting into the sun. Having to stick to the shade limits our family photography pose and playtime options, so I recommend only selecting a mid day shoot if there is no convenient way to schedule your Boise photography in the morning or evening hours.
As photography is, by definition, the capturing of light, it is very important to choose your session time based on what you want your images to look like. Make sure to look through your Boise photographers portfolio and discuss what types of images you prefer, so your session can be scheduled accordingly. Images like the two below can be taken within minutes of each other, so communication with your Boise family photographer or engagement photographer is so important. This is one of the many reasons I schedule a consultation with my clients prior to their Boise photography session. This allows us to ensure results that are in line with your hopes.
